CBA rules, version & unimplemented cases
2026–27 regular season, before the trade deadline: upper $104M, lower $76.9M; 20–23 active players; 50 counted SPCs; retention up to 50%, three retained contracts, and aggregate retained charges up to 15% of the ceiling.
A second retention on the same contract must be separated by 75 regular-season days under the 2025 MOU. This engine cannot clear that rule without transaction history. Retention uses the same percentage for salary, bonuses and cap throughout the remaining contract; salary cash flows are not imported here.
Exceptions and unresolved cases: LTIR eligibility and new relief limits; daily accrual/deadline buying power; post-deadline and playoff rosters/cap; waivers and minor-league assignments; bonus cushions/overages; buyouts and recapture; reserve rights; contract-count exclusions; no-trade/no-move clauses and consent; existing retained transactions and reacquisition restrictions. These require further ledger data and rule modules. This is a partial rules engine, not NHL transaction approval.
Contract terms already signed are preserved. A trade does not apply new-contract term limits retroactively. New contract construction is outside this simulator.
